Moor Clay has been used since the ancient times for beauty treatments. Moor mud is 

organic and renowned for its high mineral content and efficacy in mud packs and

masks.There are 3 main types of moors: 'hoch'(high) moors, 'flach'(surface) moors, and 

'tiefen'(deep) moors.

Near 3,000 years ago, the Celts and Romans are known to have used moors in Austria to

treat their wounded.

Deep Moors also called Tiefen Moors or Heilmoor clay are the most rare type and known

Heilmoor clay is a form of nutrient-rich peat mud from the moors in Austria. It is a

homogeneous, smooth blackish mixture of both organic and inorganic compounds. 

Inorganic compounds are also present in dead sea mud, fango, volcanic and ocean

muds, but the secret is that the moor also contains organic, or living compounds of

hundreds of healing, detoxifying and beautifying herbals that essentially have brewed

underground, in the absence of pollutants or oxygen, for thousands of years.These 

ingredients include high concentration of humic acids causes many of the minerals to 

exist in bivalent state - that means that their molecular size is smaller - enough to allow 

them to absorb into the tissues, and the humic acids acts as a vehicle for any other 

substance, vitamins, antioxidants, humus substances and minerals.Under massive 

pressure, it has been compacted to a quarter of its original volume, resulting in a herbal

They are formed during the Ice Age as the result of a geological shift which caused a 

layer of rich vegetation (including herbs, plants and flowers) to become submerged up to 

60 feet of clay, where it remained, cocooned within the Earth. Free from the decaying 

effects of oxygen, the plant matter undergoes a ‘ripening’ process over thousands of 

years where all of the organic and inorganic components within the plants are retained in

the Moor. These myriad of natural compounds (about 700 plants, herbs and flowers) 

make Moor one of nature's most potent therapeutic and detoxifying substances.

It is extracted from a depth of over 60 feet, which protects the clay from contaminants.

agricultural contaminants. Heilmoor clay is used in soaps and cosmetics. The clay can 

also be used to create a mud mask that is applied directly to the skin to absorb oils and 

tighten pores as the mud dries.
